The Story Behind “The Butt Dance” (get it?)

final-mcmxciThe Butt Dance is an original song from my soundtrack to the KTLA Morning News. It’s about our floor director, Neil S. Levine, who would often do a weird on-camera dance going into commercial breaks. So I wrote a song about him. It ended up getting lots of airplay – most notoriously when we ended the show once with the song and theh cut “live” to breaking news in the O.J. Simpson trial! Awkward!  Celebrity guests often requested a command performance from Neil. Below is the time singer Rita Coolidge visited the show and insisted Neil do the dance with her.  It’s quite fitting as Rita’s We’re All Alone was my first dance at my sophomore prom!
